Alexander was the first person to step out of class the second the bell rang. No, not because he hated the class, he loved the class, it was one of his favorites besides photography, and was definately higher than the lame regular boring math/english/science drills they had to go through, but he was making a mental note to be careful. The history of this place was bad enough, and all horror stories have truth in them. Besides, he barely new his way around; he had only been at the place for a week, and he had arrived late to top it all.
Another reason for rushing besides making sure not to be stomped on or tricked by upperclassmen *shudder* was because he couldn't get behind. He couldn't be late, he couldn't forget, he couldn't fail. It just wasn't an option, especially since he had worked himself to death to get into this place. He wasn't about to slack off the first twenty seconds he was there!
But mostly he was avoiding upperclassmen. It was hard enough he had to room with them, all alone and the youngest of the group, but he couldn't afford to be slamming into them when he was trying to find his way somewhere. It was just too risky, and it wasn't exactly like he was the most cool calm and tough guy on the planet. Not to mention the fact he knew no one else who could stick up for him.
Keep head down, move near wall, watch where you're going, don't slow down, get where you need to be, talk to no one.
He manuvered his way to his next basic class (math something or another) and didn't bother stopping at his locker. If he kept all his stuff with him he would have one less place to visit and stand vulnerably out in the open for a period of time. Finding his classes were hard enough, but asking anyone directions was out of the question.
